Thursday, 30 November 2023 - With a trio of Calgary’s finest jazz musicians, charismatic Victoria-based songstress Angela Verbrugge has put together a night to pay homage to one of the most distinctive voices of the century. They will offer up vocal and instrumental renditions of Tony Bennett classics. They are joined by Vancouver Island Nanaimo area residents: Ken Lister on bass and Graham Villette on drums. The band brings originality rooted in the authentic sound of tradition, and thrill of the jazz swing feel to the flowing instrumentation and cohesive arrangement details. Ray has played piano for many years with the Lionel Hampton Big Band, and accompanied Tony’s daughter, Antonia. The quartet’s sound blends perfectly to create a close-knit chemistry evoking classic bebop and traditional jazz while tackling original material in a timeless style.
