Thursday, 7 September 2023 - Plan to soak up the last of your summer with another four-day celebration of piano at the 2023 Honens Festival! We're thrilled to welcome the Ladom Ensemble to the Honens Festival this September for Bison Noir, two Xenia concerts (designed to be accessible and inclusive for neurodivergent listeners, people with disabilities, and others who face social and systemic barriers), and in an appearance at Open Air. You'll experience their blend of accordion, piano, cello, and percussion in acoustic chamber music, arrangements of classical gems, and original compositions with a world music flavour. In addition, you'll hear performances from Artistic Director Jon Kimura Parker, Calgary artists Jani Parsons, Akiko Tominaga, and Donovan Seidle, and a beautiful solo recital by 2022 Honens Prize Laureate Illia Ovcharenko. This multi-genre, audience-friendly Festival features music by J.S. Bach, Scarlatti, Ukrainian composer Levko Revutsky, Rachmaninov’s blazingly virtuosic Suite No. 2 for two pianos, Chopin’s "Heroic" Polonaise, salon pieces by Elgar and Albeniz, and more! -
