When the Duke seduces Rigoletto's naïve daughter Gilda, it seems the curse is taking effect, and Rigoletto becomes obsessed with revenge. His plot goes terribly awry when his beloved Gilda loses her life in Rigoletto's misguided efforts to settle the score with the evil Duke.
