Vecova is diverting recyclable beverage containers from the landfill and creating jobs for persons with disabilities with our newest Social Enterprise - Bottle Pick-Up Service. In 2012, Albertans bought 2.35 billion beverage containers and 17.6% were not returned for a refund. In Canada, the employment rate for persons with disabilities is 53.5% compared to 75.1% for persons without disabilities. Over the past year, Vecova?s Bottle Pick-Up collected 370,000 empties and created 3 jobs for persons with disabilities. We signed up 1700 customers who love the convenience of pick-up at their door and getting a tax receipt! We are celebrating our success on World Environment Day ? June 5. The event will feature Calgary Food Trucks, Recycling Displays as well as a few speeches from dignitaries and some of the people our service has touched. Vecova was founded in 1969 and has been improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities ever since. Vecova Bottle Depot Pick-Up was started last year to help support our charity while creating jobs for persons with disabilities. It has been a great success and we are proud to celebrate with our community.
