Brownridge's prints explore the co-existence of modern (digital) and traditional (lithographic) forms of printmaking. As technology continues to dominate daily life, her works consider the role of the analog and the obsolete. Drawing upon the history of traditional printmaking techniques, alongside analog or film photographs, she explores the beauty and authenticity inherent in what has become outdated. Combining digital print processes, like capturing source images with a cell phone and ink-jet printing together with historic printmaking techniques of stone lithography, The Invention Moves In ultimately re-examines the value of the defunct. Michelle Brownridge studied print media at the University of Regina. She has participated in print exchanges across North America including Miami, Chicago and Seattle. Her work has been part of a number of group exhibitions such as Articulate Ink (Sakatoon), The Drying Rack (Regina) and is presently an Artist in Residence at the University of Regina. This is her first exhibition in Calgary. The Invention Moves In will be on display in the Artist Proof Gallery from January 9 to February 16, 2013, with an opening reception on Friday, January 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The Artist Proof Gallery is located at 2010F 11 St. SE in Calgary. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. Free parking, Public Transit accessible via #24 & #302 bus routes.
