Early Music - Cappella Artemisia

Early Music Voices presents Italy''s Cappella Artemisia Location: Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary (206 University Court NW, Calgary) When: Friday, November 16, 2012 at 8:00 PM Email: earlymusicvoices@hotmail.com WebSite: www.earlymusicvoices.ca A veil of mystery surrounds the music written for nuns in the convents of 16th and 17th-century Italy.  How was this music performed given the restrictions governing every aspect of their lives?   Italy's Cappella Artemisia attempts to provide some answers to this question, exploring long-forgotten works with an ensemble of female singers and four instrumentalists, including two cornetto players - an early wind instrument valued for its resemblance to the sound of the human voice.  Performers include ensemble director, Candace Smith, and cornetto virtuoso, Bruce Dickey.
