Attack of the Killer Rhododendrons

The Attack of the Killer Rhododendrons - Presentation in Fish Creek - TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2012 7:00PM - 8:00PM Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre, Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Provincial Park, 13931 Woodpath Rd. SW Calgary, AB (access via 130 Ave. and 37 St. SW) Humans have been moving plants and animals from one spot on the planet to another for millennia. Sometimes these creatures settle into their new homes with little impact. Sometimes the consequences of their arrival are disastrous. Dr. Glen Chilton has researched the impacts of invasive flora and fauna around the globe, including eucalyptus trees in Ethiopia, formosan termites in New Orleans, lupins in Iceland, bullfrogs in Uruguay and tropical fish in Banff. The Attack of the Killer Rhododendrons is his second book. His first book, The Curse of the Labrador Duck, was a bestseller and finalist for the Stephen Leacock Medal for humour, and the William Saroyan Award for international writing. Dr. Chilton is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Marine and Tropical Biology at James Cook University in Australia and a Professor Emeritus of Biology at St. Mary's University College. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Admission: Free to Friends members, $5 for non-members.
