Astrophysics on the Cutting Edge Open House Location: Rothney Astrophysical Observatory When: Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM Contact: Jennifer Howse Email: rao@phas.ucalgary.ca WebSite: www.ucalgary.ca/rao Astrophysics research and technology is moving at the speed of light.  Learn more about the latest, coolest, and hottest topics in astrophysics at the University of Calgary.  Senior astrophysics students will share their latest project results.  These are Canada's newest breed of astronomers who could go on to make the discoveries that will change our understanding of the universe.  Students Kaylie and Taylor will talk about their adventures at the CaNoRock rocket school in Norway.  Aida will present her amazing measurements of the solar winds of distance stars.  Russell will talk about his latest supernova research and present incredible images of these violent explosions in distant galaxies.  Jupiter has been visible the past few months and Chris will talk about his observations to map its atmosphere.  Jacob will explain how he measures millions of year old light to learn about the properties of galaxies.  The talks will present informative and entertaining perspectives on what's hot in astronomy.   Also, the night sky will offer a great opportunity to observe Saturn, Venus, Jupiter and Mars.
