Crocus Hunt and Sketch Walk

Saturday, 26 April 2025 - A hike to find and draw the first blooms of spring, no previous art experience necessary! April 27, 1 p.m. Nose Hill Difficulty: Easy The furry prairie crocus (Pulsatilla nuttalliana) is a beloved sign of spring in Alberta. Join us on Nose Hill to hunt – and draw – the earliest crocuses. We’ll bring our sketchbooks and check the fescue and poke around the south facing slopes. We’ll talk botany and history and jot sketches. Hikers who don’t draw are welcome to take notes and photos. Connect with the outdoors and practice your drawing. Award-winning artist/author Carolyn Fisher has illustrated nine picture books, four of which she also wrote. In addition to teaching at art college for seven years, Carolyn has talked to thousands of kids and adults about writing, art, and making books. In this beginner’s workshop, Métis artisan Janis Laboucane will share the history and significance of Métis beading where you’ll learn how to follow a traditional flower pattern to use in other personal projects. Friday, 25 April 2025 - The Calgary Horticultural Society's Gardeners' Market is presented by greengate Garden Centres. This one-day signature event brings together gardeners of all experience levels to explore the latest trends, products, and innovations in the local gardening world, and offers attendees the chance to engage with exhibitors to learn about gardening in Calgary's unique climate. With over 50 exhibitors including garden centres, service suppliers, décor creators, gardening product providers, and specialty plant groups, the Gardeners’ Market is a one-stop destination for gardening.
