Wednesday, 16 April 2025 - Debunk and debate local histories at Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History! Every month, a historian or specialized expert will share their research and offer new perspectives on the history we think we know. The legacy of Fort Calgary lives in our literature, but the truth wasnt always what was presented by the North-West Mounted Police. Writers around the world came and went from this place, sharing stories, poems, memoirs and observations of the early days of the emerging colonial-frontier city of Calgary. Indigenous Peoples and women who lived here found their voices missing from history, despite the work they created about their firsthand experiences. This April on Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History, local author and historian Shaun Hunter takes us on a tour of Calgarys formative years through the eyes of writers! Delve into the vibrant accounts of life around the fort, beyond the NWMP perspective. Shaun will take a look into how contemporary writers reimagined the citys early decades on the page. -
