Saturday 21 September 2024 - Welcome to the Goodwill Sledge Hockey Match ! Join us at WinSport for an exciting in-person event where athletes showcase their skills on the ice. Calgary Sledge Hockey Association and South Korea's Gangwon State Para Ice Hockey are hosting the Goodwill Sledge Hockey Match. Gangwon Province in South Korea and Alberta in Canada have a special relationship through a "sister province" or "twinning" agreement. Such agreements are made between regions in different countries to foster cultural, economic, and educational exchanges. This type of relationship is meant to encourage cooperation in various fields, including trade, tourism, education, technology, and sometimes even environmental initiatives. The relationship between Gangwon Province and Alberta likely involves exchanges of knowledge and practices in areas where both regions have shared interests, such as energy (Alberta's oil and gas industry) or winter sports (Gangwon is home to Pyeongchang, which hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics). These sister province relationships are often formalized by memoranda of understanding (MoUs) or similar agreements, setting the stage for collaborative projects and exchanges. In 2024, Gangwon Province and Alberta are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their sister province relationship. This anniversary marks five decades of cooperation and exchange between the two regions, highlighting their long-standing partnership. Special events and activities are likely planned throughout the year to commemorate this milestone, focusing on cultural, educational, and economic collaborations that have strengthened ties between Gangwon and Alberta over the years. -
