Thursday 25 April 2024 - Welcome to TD Amplify 2023-24, a season of unexpected and unmatched Calgary performers brought together by curator and spoken word icon Wakefield Brewster. Part live show and part underground DJ party - make TD Amplify part of your Friday or Saturday night in downtown Calgary. Calgarys sixth Poet Laureate, published writer, and recording artist, Wakefield Brewster's vision for this four-part series of shows is titled PeoplePuzzle: Some Assembly Required, asking what it takes for a person to accept the pieces that make up their own puzzle of an identity. Part 3 of this season of TD Amplify dives into art as a channel for mental wellness through four remarkable women. Noreen Demeria is Aninshanabe Kwe from the Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation in Treaty 4 (Manitoba), and both a traditional Indigenous drummer and singer as well as community worker and healer. Kamika Bianca Guerra-Walker is the definition of multi-disciplinary: a director, producer, writer, model, actor, poet, filmmaker, and mental health advocate of Jamaican and Chilean heritage. Sandra Sutter is an award-winning Cree Métis recording artist, songwriter, musician, poet and filmmaker, and recipient of the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women's Esquao Award, an Aboriginal Role Model of Alberta Award and WXN Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada Award. Tara Vahab is an award-winning Persian Canadian, Calgary-based artist, mental health advocate (through her organization LOUD Art Society), and therapeutic arts practitioner whose work integrates public art projects, murals, workshops and performances. Join Arts Commons Presents and Wakefield Brewster for a 60-minute showcase of these artists, plus a pre- and post-show party featuring a local DJ to be announced soon. -
