Hunger Dinner

Hunger Dinner Location: Red and White Club (McMahon Stadium) 1817 Crowchild Trail NW When: Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 5:30 - 8:30PM Contact: Hodon Abdi Contact Number: 403-266-5448 Email: hodon@youthcentral.com WebSite: svphunger.org The Hunger Dinner is a collaborative event put together by Youth Central and Social Venture Partners Calgary. The event strives to raise awareness around the issue of hunger and homelessness. In the months leading up to the Hunger Dinner, youth volunteers create beautiful ceramic bowls which are used at the event. Guests are randomly selected to receive one of three meals based on the different socioeconomic levels. Last year, 30 guests were given a three course "first world" meal, 70 guests were given soup and bread as part of the "second world" meal and 100 guests were given plain rice as part of the "third world meal." It was an eye opening experience for many of the attendees. We hope to repeat the same model this year and serve the second and third world meals in the ceramic bowls made by the youth volunteers. At the end of the evening, guests will be able to take their handmade bowls home as a reminder of the individuals who go hungry each day not only globally but also in our own backyard. This year, we hope to have heartwarming speeches of struggle and perseverance from individuals in Calgary who have firsthand experience of homelessness and hunger as well as a keynote speech by Dr. John Rook, CEO and President of the Calgary Homeless Foundation.
