Calgary Concert Opera

Calgary Concert Opera presents Location: St Matthews Lutheran Church, Calgary When: Friday, February 01, 2013 to Monday, February 04, 2013 at 7:00 PM Contact: Harris Contact Number: 403.400.4634 Email: mail@calgaryconcertopera.com WebSite: www.calgaryconcertopera.com Calgary Concert Opera Company presents not one, but two short and delightful operas from Puccini's trilogy, presented in "concert format" by astonishing vocalists, in great venues and at reasonable prices. This is a great opportunity even for those who don't yet know that they're opera fans to sample some of the pleasures of this expressive artform. The two items are: Suor Angelica - Forced to enter a convent by her family, a young nun takes poison when a heartless Aunt coldly informs her of the death of her child. Seized by remorse, she prays for forgiveness and witnesses a miracle. Il Tabarro - Set on a barge in the Seine river, a captain discovers his wife's infidelity, and exacts a shocking revenge. These two pieces will be lovingly rendered by a troupe of performers with international credentials and local roots: Toronto's Erin Armstrong and Calgarian Michèle Cusson share the leads. CCOC co-founder Barbara King has a role in each. Baritone John Conlon hails from Lethbridge. Musical director is William Shookhoff, founder of Toronto's Opera by Request. Concerts will be at: St Matthew's Lutheran Church, Friday February 22 at 7 p.m., Calgary's Ranchmen's Club at 7 p.m. Saturday Feb 23; and a Sunday Feburary 24 reprise at Okotoks United Church at 3 p.m. Advance tickets and specific dates and times are available at the CCOC website, www.calgaryconcertopera.com, or call: Barbara King, Company co-founder and lead vocalist, 403.719.4525.
