CALGARY: Motion Gallery, located in Eau Claire Market, is celebrating it's 1-Year milestone with a marathon Artstravaganza December 15, 2012. Starting at Noon, the family-friendly hours are from 12pm to 8pm. After 8pm it's Adults only and Motion Gallery is becoming known for it's grooving art parties, and as a unique venue if you ever wish to hold an event. Motion Gallery's Art Director, Beth MacNairn, who is an established artist in her own right, has been busy scheduling local musicians, DJs and performance artists to entertain and celebrate alongside her business partner, owner and visionary behind Motion Gallery, artist Rob Dodds. "Has it been a year already?" laughs Rob. "Time DOES fly when you are having fun!" And with the community mandate that Eau Claire Market has regarding non-profit groups, Rob is thankful the support is still there a year later. And that he doesn't have to move. "We started with 5 artists and we just recently added our 50th. I can't imagine what it would be like to relocate all that art work." Visual artist Tara Hendleman will be on-site doing a live painting, Patrick Yesh will be creating caricatures for a donation, and if you have ever wanted to get a tattoo, but didn't relish the thought of the pain, or permanence, tattoo artist Johnny Dat Le of Heros & Villains will Ink you with a Sharpee for a donation! Nat Drag of Electric Love Hooping & Jordan Smith with his light staff will be making merry with their dizzying mix of light and movement! A live auction hosted by Steve Berezay (of the infamous Ship & Anchor's "Punk Rock Bingo") will be held later in the evening so be prepared for battle. The gift-giving season is fast approaching! What better way to show your ongoing support of Calgary's emerging art scene by purchasing an Original work by a local artist for you or your loved ones! CJSW Resident DJ, DJ Tokyo, and Motion's House DJ El Chameleon, along with DJ Frederiko Suave will be supplying the evening's dance energy. Musicians Travis Gaetz and Funky Aidan create their own unique brand of live music during the afternoon. Come and experience never before seen works by David Thomas, and meet Lioni from Maple & Oak who will be creating Crazy Hats! Refreshments and yummy treats will be served with Pastries being provided by Pascal's Patisserie. The event is FREE and donations are always gratefully accepted by this non-profit artist collective. Motion Gallery is a not for profit artist Co-Op, a place for emerging artists to gain long term exposure. Motion Gallery has a strong community of enthusiastic and motivated people, working hard to improve the space and promote the artists involved. Motion Gallery is a destination for Calgary's Visual and performance artists. Each month Motion Gallery hosts group exhibitions showcasing all forms of artistic expression. Memberships are only $10 per year and make great stocking stuffers! Come celebrate with Motion Gallery and experience another reason why Calgary was designated Cultural Capital of Canada for 2012. -30-. Event Details. Location: 200 Barclay Square
