Eyes High, Voices High

Eyes High, Voices High Location: Rothney Astrophysical Observatory When: Tuesday, October 02, 2012 at 630pm - 830pm Contact: Jennifer Howse Email: rao@phas.ucalgary.ca WebSite: www.ucalgary.ca/rao As part of the United Way Campaign, the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory is featuring the University of Calgary Chorus in an open air concert under the stars. Join us for an incredible evening of art and science and a chance to support the United Way. The observatory features an open air amphitheater as well as a telescope observing terrace which will be open from 7pm to 9pm. The Chorus will be performing twice, once at 7pm and again at 8pm. Telescopes will be operating and the sky will offer a great opportunity to observe the constellations Cygnus the Swan, Cassiopeia and the Mighty Hercules. The Rothney Astrophysical Observatory supports the dark sky initiatives of both the Foothills Municipality and the City of Calgary. The World Wide Star Count is a fun family science activity where families can look in the sky and report on how many stars they can see around the Cygnus constellation. They can then report to the following website http://www.windows2universe.org/citizen_science/starcount/. This is a great opportunity to be an astronomer and also to measure the amount of light pollution in your community. Details and information on the World Wide Star Count will be available at the October 2nd event.   Admission is donation to the United Way. Event Details. Location: Rothney Astrophysical Observatory
