August 3 to 5, 2012 Foothills Athletic Park Calgary Calgary's Nations Cup provides an opportunity for local soccer players to wear their nation's colors and compete together based on their ethnic backgrounds and/or countries of origin, creating an exciting atmosphere that provides a platform for people throughout the community to express their ethnic pride. The tournament, held August 3 to 5, 2012 at Foothills Athletic Park Calgary, is three days of intense football in which 16 men's teams and 4 ladies' teams play for national pride and bragging rights. The excitement of the condensed format is matched by the consistency and quality of the tournament's champions. Interest in the tournament has grown steadily since its inception in 2006. Teams compete for the coveted "Davinder Singh Kajla Memorial Cup" With hundreds of spectators coming out each year, this tournament is the must see soccer event of the summer. Sometimes the Nations Cup plot is so well scripted that the winner seems a foregone conclusion. But the favorites can falter and unknowns emerge. That's what makes this game and this championship so exciting. This was proven in 2011 with a new entry in the tournament, Sudan, winning the championship. They are one of the early entries for the 2012 competition eager to defend their title. Previous winners, Scotland and England are also returning for 2012. Davinder's love for soccer started when he was five and he continued pursuing this passion until his last moments playing with the Properties, Star Latino, SAIT Men's team and ending with the Calgary Callies. Throughout his soccer career, he played in numerous provincial and national championships making lifelong friends that continue to keep his memory alive by holding this tournament each year.
