Canaries in the Creek

Canaries in the Creek - Presented by Brian Meagher, Provincial Biologist, Trout Unlimited Canada Thursday, May 24, 2012 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre, Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Provincial Park (13931 Woodpath Rd. SW - access via 37 St. and 130 Ave. SW) To help ensure healthy fish populations, it is essential to make responsible choices when it comes to developing and utilizing land in and around riparian areas. As populations increase in rural areas in this province, more pressure will be placed on wetlands and other watersheds, which could affect wildlife like fish. Much like the “canary in a coal mine,” fish act as an indicator species of the health of a particular watershed. Learn how land-use decisions along local waterways, riparian ecosystem management and storm water improvements benefit aquatic ecosystems. Trout Unlimited Canada’s mission is “To Conserve, Protect and Restore Canada’s Freshwater Ecosystems and Their Coldwater Resources for Current and Future Generations.” REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Admission: Free to Friends members, $5 for non-members. To register please contact the Friends at 403-238-3841 or chris@friendsoffishcreek.org For more information visit www.friendsoffishcreek.org Friends of Fish Creek 13931 Woodpath Rd. SW
