Marc-Antoine Charpentier, born the year of Monteverdi's death, lived in the shadow of his great contemporary Jean-Baptiste Lully. However, Charpentier's music was written with both an elegance and dramatic joie-de-vivre that is characteristic of French music to this day. Since its founding in 1995, Spiritus Chamber Choir has enriched the Calgary and Canadian choral scene with performances of high-quality choral repertoire.
