Bike to Work Day's mission is to encourage people working in the downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods to try biking to work, in the hopes that they might continue to cycle to work all season long. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate or observe as Calgarians come together to celebrate one of the city s best ways to travel. This is an excellent opportunity for beginner to experienced cyclists to come together and utilize the city s extensive pathway system! Best of all, the event is free and there is no need to register. One week before Bike to Work Day, we also promote the event with a project known as "The Suit Pursuit". The Suit Pursuit is a light-hearted race between a cyclist, a transit rider and a car driver. This year s Suit Pursuit will take place on the morning of Friday, April 29, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta. During the Suit Pursuit event, the three commuters will leave at the same time from the same location in Calgary and will commute downtown to the Eau Claire Market. Each commuter will be timed to determine the most efficient mode of transportation. We have little doubt that the cyclist will arrive first, as this has been the consistent result in all previous years. Bike to Work Day Details When? The fifth annual Bike to Work Day event will take place on Friday, May 6, 2011 - 6:30 am to 9:00 am Where? Energy Pit Stop stations sponsored by bike shops from around Calgary will be set up in and around downtown Calgary. There will be "bike doctors" on-site each station - offering free bike tune-ups, information, snacks and tons of other great giveaways! Oh..and don't forget the FREE BREAKFAST to the first 500 cyclists to arrive at Eau Claire Market on the morning of May 6th. www.bikecalgary.ca.
