Visiting coaches from Right To Play projects in Ghana are coming to Calgary Feb. 1, 2011, to teach Canadians about the transformative power of sport and play in the lives of some of the world s most disadvantaged children and youth. The coaches will be joined by influential Athlete Ambassador Hayley Wickenheiser and Marathon Man Martin Parnell. With four Olympic medals under her belt as a member of Team Canada Women s Hockey, the current U of C Women s Hockey superstar, Wickenheiser, knows the power of sport all too well. As an Athlete Ambassador, Wickenheiser has travelled to projects in Rwanda and will speak to the impacts of play that she witnessed in the field. She will be joined by Martin Parnell a Cochrane man who set a goal to run 250 marathons in 2010 and raise $250,000 in support of Right To Play, and did it! Parnell will share his inspiration for Marathon Quest 250, what motivated him through the 10,550km, and why he believes sport and play are so important in the life of a child.
