Taize Location: Carewest Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre When: Friday, November 19, 2010 to Friday, December 16, 2011 3rd Friday of every month at 6:30pm Contact: Vanessa Miller Email: nessmarie@hotmail.com WebSite: www.taize.fr I am looking for volunteers to help us on the 3rd Friday of each month (but if you cannot make it every month that is fine, just come when you can) to transport patients (by wheeling them) at the Dr. Vernon Carewest Fanning Centre to and from their rooms to a Taize Songs, Relaxation, & Meditative Prayer Event. I am also looking for volunteers to sing in the choir (the songs are very simple) or to play an instrument. However some people enjoy coming to simply observe. The Dr. Vernon Carewest Fanning Centre is a health care facility. About 1/2 of the patients are long term, some have few or no visitors. We meet at around 6-6:15pm on the 3rd Friday of each month, the songs begin at 6:30pm and everything is over by about 7-715pm. The service is followed by coffee, tea, juice and cookies at the Centre (and sometime's a dinner party...several volunteers often enjoy going out for dinner or something fun after the event :) Taize is a very quaint village in France where these services began. To date, people of different faiths, agnostics and all beliefs have made pilgrimages to Taize. It is an international, multi-lingual, ecumenical Christian prayer service (however in Taize the Brothers and Sisters address and engage in dialogue over many interesting topics to people from all over the world, some of the brothers live alongside the poorest people on earth to show solidarity and unity, they do not accept donations, but instead live solely by their work). The services are popular in Europe, Montreal, Ottawa, New York, India, Kenya, Asia and other parts of the world. Patients are drawn to the simple hymns sung in different languages, relaxed meditative and peaceful setting. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.
