British MP George Galloway will speak at the University of Calgary about the Canadian government s attempt to ban him, as well as the political situation in the Middle East and Central Asia. George Galloway is a five-time elected member of British Parliament, who founded the left wing Respect Party as well as the
Palestinian aid convoy, Viva Palestina. The outspoken politician and anti-war activist was recently banned from entering Canada in March of last year for providing approximately $2 million worth of humanitarian assistance to Hamas. Due to these factors, including his views of the war in Afghanistan, he was deemed a national security threat to Canada. On September 27, the Federal Court of Canada overruled the Canadian Immigration Minister s decision to ban Mr. Galloway, clearing the way for his entrance to Canada. Mr. Galloway hopes to expose Calgarians to the issues currently being faced in the Middle East and the roadblocks that activists encounter in advancing the peace process and openly discussing human rights in Canada. .
