Countdown To Neossat Launch

Countdown to NEOSSat Launch Location: Rothney Astrophysical Observatory When: Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 8pm - 11pm Contact: Jennifer Howse Email: rao@phas.ucalgary.ca WebSite: www.ucalgary.ca/rao Canada s asteroid hunting microsatellite, NEOSSat, will soon be launched into its orbit around the earth. This mission will help detect near earth objects and help us to discover more about the composition of our solar system. Rob Cardinal will describe the mission to reveal the hard to detect asteroids which orbit the sun. The NEOSSat science team's Principle Investigator is Professor Alan Hildebrand of the University of Calgary. Rob Cardinal is a member of this science team and will describe how this new innovation will lead to discovery.  Also presented will be a brief overview of recent and near-future asteroid-related space missions. For more details go to www.neossat.ca.   In the sky The sky will offer a great opportunity to observe Jupiter and its moons. We ll have our telescopes ready with our monthly In the Sky presentation.
